Did you know that Coca-Cola initially was advertised as a remedy for headaches? The famous beverage has been created in 1886 by a pharmacist from Atlanta named John Pemberton who claimed his product could be a successful treat for headache. It is a well known fact that caffeine is one of the main ingredients of Coca-Cola. Scientists believe that caffeine restricts the blood flow to the dilated vessels in the head which reduces pain.
However, according to numerous reports excessive amounts of caffeine could actually cause headaches instead of cure it. That is why the Coca-Cola recipe was altered and instead of caffeine and cocaine now it uses coca leaf extract. As a result, nowadays the healing properties of the Coke are significantly reduced.
Back in the 19th century the Coke syrup was sold in small dosages and was widely used as a cure for nausea and indigestion. Pemberton also claimed his beverage is an effective remedy for morphine addiction and impotency as well.

We are all familiar with the tragic story of World Trade Center in New York and the destructive attacks from 2001. The two towers collapsed after two hijacked planes crushed into them killing thousands of people and injuring many more. It’s a tragedy that we will remember for a long time. In 2010 builders working at Ground Zero came upon an interesting archaeological finding – a wooden ship. Scientists dated it to the 18th century. The nearly 200-year-old boat is 9.8 meters long. Experts think it had been dump at this place in around 1810′s along with wooden beams. They suggest the boat was intentionally sunk in order to become part of the foundations of a new pier.

Have you ever wondered why school, highway and city buses don’t have seatbelts? The answer is simple – they don’t need them.
Since buses have high flooring and their seats are placed higher than those in other vehicles, in case of collision the damage would happen under the seating, thus keeping the passengers safe. School buses have closely placed seating with high backs, which are padded. In the event of an accident, child would be pushed forward to what seems like an early version of the airbag. This also applies for highway buses. The padded backs and the elevated floors keep the passengers safe.

Yet city buses don’t have such high floor plans and the distance between the seats is wider. However, placing seatbelts would require more space, which would mean less seats. And since many passengers are standing while traveling with city buses, seatbelts wouldn’t do much good. Not only that, placing seatbelts would cost between $8,000 and 15,000 for each bus!
Nevertheless, all buses include a seatbelt for the driver to secure him during the drive in case any impact.
